Cameron Menzies has been one of the PDC’s standout performers over the past year, but even the in-form Scot admits he’s got a tough time ranking the legends who came before him.
In a new feature with Darts Corner, Menzies was tasked with picking between some of Scotland’s most iconic players — and he didn’t find it easy. When your nation’s darting heritage includes world champions like John Henderson, Robert Thornton, Jocky Wilson, Les Wallace, Gary Anderson and Peter Wright, there’s not exactly a wrong answer.
Menzies, who’s risen to No. 26 in the world rankings after claiming two PDC titles inside a year, and thanks to his consistently solid performances of late, is part of a proud lineage of Scottish talent. He’s spoken often about how much those names mean to him and how their success inspired him to pursue darts full-time in 2025 after years combining it with plumbing work.
In a big decision, Menzies was asked to choose between either Jocky Wilson or Peter Wright. Two of Scottish darts' most colourful characters. "I have to go with my era. I have to go with Peter Wright," Menzies answers.
When it comes to between Snakebite and Gary Anderson however, "There's only one answer for me. Gary Anderson," Menzies smiles, even refusing to select himself over the Flying Scotsman. "That's easy! The easiest question you've given me!"
Menzies’ answers show a player very aware of the tradition he’s part of, but also one eager to carve out his own legacy. With form trending upward and his ranking climbing fast, there’s every chance his name will one day sit comfortably alongside the greats he grew up watching. After all, Menzies has already beaten Anderson at a televised PDC major this year, knocking his hero out of the recent European Championship in Dortmund.
