Groups E-F-G-H were also completed Tuesday night at the Grand Slam of Darts. This completes the lineup for the knockout stage. After the exit of world number one Luke Humphries, the world number two and three also did not make it past the group stage.
Michael Smith stranded in third place in Group E. Bullyboy' started the group stage with a convincing 5-2 victory over Mensur Suljovic, but then choked in both Jermaine Wattimena (5-1) and Mike de Decker (5-0). Wattimena became the group winner with three wins, while De Decker finished second with two wins. Suljovic concluded the group stage without any victories.
Luke Littler is having a flawless debut at the Grand Slam of Darts for now. 'The Nuke' threw Keane Barry (5-0) off the stage in his first appearance with an average of 112. After that, Littler also picked up wins against Dimitri van den Bergh (5-1) and Lourence Ilagan (5-3). Ilagan would lose all his pool matches, leaving Van den Bergh and Ilagan to decide who became the runner-up in Group F. This battle was decided 5-1 in favor of 'The Dreammaker'.
Gary Anderson remained unbeaten in Group G. 'The Flying Scotsman' started with a 5-1 win over Ryan Joyce, and then recorded an important victory over Michael van Gerwen (5-4). The first spot was then secured after a 5-2 win over Noa-Lynn van Leuven, who finished scoreless last. Van Gerwen and Joyce faced each other with a spot in the last sixteen at stake. It was Joyce who took the win 5-4, making it the first time since 2010 that Van Gerwen has not made it past the group stage at the Grand Slam of Darts.
In the pool of death, Gian van Veen emerged as the best player. With victories over Josh Rock (5-2), Stephen Bunting (5-1) and Wessel Nijman (5-4), he became group winner in Group H. Nijman threw averages of 106.51, 105.39 and 111.10 in the pool phase, but bizarrely, that did not result in a single point for the Dutchman. Stephen Bunting and Josh Rock eventually fought for the second spot behind Van Veen. 'The Bullet' proved to be the lucky one, making Bunting the last player to secure a spot in the last sixteen.
