Frankfurt will host the World Cup of Darts from Thursday, June 27 to Sunday, June 30. Bahrain will be there for the second year in a row.
Basem Mahmood is at it again for Bahrain, this year on the side of Duda Durra. "We have trained hard to be ready and I am convinced we will do much better than last year (when Bahrain lost twice without a chance)," Mahmood said.
"We are by all means looking forward to it tremendously. Our preparation is also much better than last year. We are getting a lot of support from the federation in Bahrain and since the World Series of Darts came down here there is a lot more interest in the sport. Several local competitions are being organized and there are a lot of young talents. Darts is getting more and more media attention here."
Mahmood has Duda Durra in his side this year, up from Abdulnaser Yusuf last year. "Duda is a very good player, I am confident he will do well. Last year we were also just a bit unlucky that Abdulnaser got sick just before the tournament."
World Championship in Middle East?
Recently, there have been many rumors that the World Darts Championship might move to the Middle East in the future. "We are all inquiring," Mahmood said. "Bahrain is a small country but has a good reputation for hosting big tournaments. So many sports have already settled here, so why not the World Darts Championship as well."
