The fourth Players Championship of 2025 was a triumph for Ryan Searle. 'Heavy Metal' defeated Cameron Menzies 8-3 in the final in Rosmalen on Tuesday. For Searle, it is already the sixth Players Championship title of his career. Searle now hopes that this tournament victory is just the beginning of his path towards darting success on the biggest stages.
Searle crowned his strong day with a sublime performance in the final. The 37-year-old Englishman posted an average of 100.76 and won realtively comfortably against Menzies. Having already defeated notable names such as Florian Hempel (6-0), Mensur Suljovic (6-2), Owen Bates (6-1), Mickey Mansell (6-5), William O'Connor (6-4) and Stefan Bellmont (7-6), it capped off a very successful day Searle.
“I’ve been playing really well in practice, so to prove it this week is fantastic,” reflected Searle happily in his post-match interview afterwards. “To win six PDC titles is amazing, especially when you look at the list of brilliant players that never won a PDC title. Winning a title six years running is a great achievement for me, and if I can win another one this year, that will be another boundary crossed.”
Searle is currently eighteenth in the PDC Order of Merit, but is looking to make 2025 the year he finally cracks the darting elite. “This year I want to try and push forward and do more than what I’ve done in the past,” explains the one-time major finalist. “Throughout my career I’ve basically just done the bare minimum to get by, and luckily enough I’m half decent at darts!"
"I had a bit of a gut-wrenching loss to Ryan Joyce at the World Championship, because I feel like I played really well," he adds. “As soon as I got back home I’ve been on the practice board. I’m looking to put more effort in this year, so we will see where that takes me.”
The next major scheduled is the UK Open next weekend. "I'm ready for it," Searle concludes defiantly.
