Thornton on Japan draw in World Cup of Darts opener: "It will be a very difficult game"

Due to the withdrawal of Gary Anderson and Peter Wright, experienced Robert Thornton will compete at the World Cup of Darts for the first time since 2016.

They will take on Japan in the first round with Thornton teaming with debutant John Henderson.

"In the past we performed well against Japan, but I realize all too well that it will be a very difficult game. The level has increased massively all over the world in recent years, there are actually hardly any easy matches, besides Asada has also already got some experience on a big stage, "said Thornton to Darts World.

Two-time major winner Thornton has now dropped to 68th place in the world rankings. "But my form is gradually coming back, I throw high averages in practice, so I am certainly confident. I am also looking forward to playing with John Henderson, we have known each other for years."
