John Lowe was involved in one of the most historic moments in darting history on October 13, 1984 by becoming the first darts player to ever throw a nine-dart at a television tournament.
The darting legend made history by finishing a leg within nine darts during the MFI World Matchplay. Former world champion Keith Deller was his opponent at the time. Lowe remarkably threw his nine-darter via two 180's, followed by treble 17, treble 18 and double 18.
The three-time world champion (1979, 1987 and 1993) earned £ 102,000 from this achievement. In 2018 he received an MBE for his services to darts and charity.
