Tomoya Goto may compete in the World Darts Championship for the second time in December after taking overall victory at the Japan Tour Finals in Shizuoka last weekend.
Goto proved the best of a 32-member field that competed at Alexandra Palace on Sunday. In five matches, the Japanese conceded only seven legs. The Japan Tour Finals consisted of the top-32 players on the Japan Tour Order of Merit.
Goto opened his tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory over Junichi Maiyama, before recording a 5-4 win over Hiroyuki Yoshino. Goto then notched victories over Shingo Enomata (5-0) and Nobuhiro Yamamoto (5-0) for a spot in the finals.
In the final, Kenichi Ajiki was the opponent, after Ajiki won in the semifinals from old friend Seigo Asada (5-4). The final turned out to be a 5-2 win for Goto.
Goto impressed during his debut at the previous World Championships by defeating Ian White 3-1 in sets after throwing seven 180 scores, among other things. In the second round, Goto lost 3-1 in sets to Ryan Searle.
