The UK Open also known to many as the FA Cup of Darts returns this weekend for it's latest iteration at Butlins in Minehead and ahead of proceedings beginning, we take a look at the highest one match averages in the history of the tournament.
Leading the way as expected was five time
UK Open champion who in claiming his fourth title (2010) hit the highest average seen; during a 9-0 drubbing of Kevin Painter with a 118.66. This average was known as a world record average for a long time, until Michael van Gerwen broke this record in 2016 with 123.40.
He is also second and third during another run to the title in 2009 with 115.62 and 115.51 in his Quarter-Final; as well as Last 32 wins over Mark Lawrence and Ken Mather.
Michael van Gerwen disrupts the Power's dominance in the table with 114.91 during the 2015 UK Open when he eased past Kim Huybrechts 9-3 but we get another four high averages on the table from Taylor.
He hit 114.54, 113.05, 111.67 and 110.72 respectively ranging from 2008 all the way to 2015 showing the types of averages it was taking to defeat Taylor at that point.
The only recent averages we have on the table come from Peter Wright (2017 Quarter Final) with 110.88 and Kim Huybrechts (2017, Last 32) with 110.29. With the standard higher than ever, will we get a new player ruling the roost after this weekend?
