Michael Smith easily qualified for the last sixteen at the
European Darts Matchplay. In the second round, Keane Barry was defeated 6-2.
Smith has been in the spotlight in recent days. Not because of his achievements, but because of a switch to another darts manufacturer. After 10 years, his partnership with Unicorn Darts came to an end, eventually leading to a world title and the number-one position in the world rankings.
It was announced Saturday morning that Smith has signed a contract with New Zealand darts brand Shot Darts. Against Barry, "Bullyboy" immediately came up with a new set of darts.
And that went very well. He was able to put up excellent numbers with an average of 101 and a finishing percentage of 60 percent. Smith won all his six legs within five trips to the board and therefore easily continued in the tournament. Sunday afternoon he faces Josh Rock in the last sixteen.
Stephen Bunting's opponent in the Last 16 was also confirmed. Luke Humphries only allowed Marko Kantele one leg and forced a duel with 'The Bullet' with a 6-1 victory.
