Raymond van Barneveld is through to the third round at the PDC
World Darts Championship after seeing off Ryan Meikle recovering from a superb start from 'The Barber' who couldn't maintain it after initially going ahead. Another clash with 'The Iceman' Gerwyn Price awaits.
This was despite Van Barneveld coming down with a bout of food poisoning with the five-time World Champion revealing post match that he went to a chinese restaurant with his manager, Ben de Kok in Piccadilly Circus and spent most of the day in bed. Some recovery from the doyen of Dutch darts after an initial nightmare.
Meikle missed two darts to break and Van Barneveld got a first leg on the board. Both hit 180’s but it was Meikle with an 81 checkout that went 2-1 up.
Meikle missed 161 on the bull but returned for double 12 for the set. Double 13 was pinned by Van Barneveld to hold in the second set. He missed 161 to break but Meikle couldn’t get a shot at 92 and Barney hit double eight for 2-0. He went six darts into a nine-dart finish but returned for a 76 checkout to make it 1-1.
Meikle missed five darts and Van Barneveld broke throw but Meikle responded to hit straight back at 1-1. Double 20 saw Meikle go one away from 2-1 in sets.
Meikle missed 114 for the set on double 20 and Barney prelonged it on double 10 and pinned double 20 to seal it.
Meikle missed 170 and Van Barneveld held. He missed 130 on the bull but Meikle couldn’t get a shot at 143 and Barney hit double eight to go one away. He sealed it with a 76 checkout.
