Van Barneveld to auction World Championship trophies: 'I have no feeling with it anymore'

Raymond van Barneveld's World Championship trophies will soon have a new owner. The five-time world champion has decided to have his trophies auctioned.

In collaboration with Catawiki (an auction site), Van Barneveld is going to have a number of items from his private collection auctioned. Among other things, his first Embassy trophy (1998) and his PDC World Darts Championship trophy (2007) will go under the hammer.

"It can go. Yes, really. I have no feeling with it anymore. Seriously not'', Barney told the Dutch website NOS. "I also think it would be nice for the fans who followed me for years. A lot of people will say, 'He's in divorce and needs money.' Well, you can see my bank statements, that's certainly not the case...''

''Those trophies have been here for years. I am finished with them. The auction will be done in phases and starts next Friday'', the 52-year-old from The Hague said.

Van Barneveld retired from the professional circuit following his 2020 World Championship defeat to Darin Young in the first round. He returned his PDC Tour Card and will appear on the exhibition circuit in the coming years.
