Dimitri van den Bergh did compatriot
Kim Huybrechts a good service by beating Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round of the
European Darts Matchplay.
Huybrechts currently occupies the final qualifying spot for the
World Matchplay and the Euro Tour tournament in Trier is the final event in the qualifying race for the summer tournament in Blackpool.
Pietreczko was Huybrechts' main rival and needed only two more wins to overtake Huybrechts. The German was able to keep up with Van den Bergh for some time, but eventually had to let the Belgian take the win 6-3.
There are now only four players who could possibly pass Huybrechts. Keane Barry needs a final place to do so, while Callan Rydz, Gian van Veen and Ryan Joyce need to win the tournament to do so.
James Wade also reached the third round of the European Darts Matchplay in Trier. 'The Machine' played a sublime match against Jonny Clayton and, thanks to an average of 107, was able to triumph 6-3 against Clayton, who, by the way, threw 106 average himself.
