2020
World Matchplay champion and last year's finalist,
Dimitri van den Bergh has breezed through his opening round at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool sealing a commanding 10-2 win over Callan Rydz.
Van den Bergh recorded an average of 100 in the process in a statement win early on as he sealed it with a 137 checkout. Can he go one better this year.
The Belgian started with a 48 checkout after Rydz missed double 20 for a 114 checkout to begin the tie and Van den Bergh doubled his lead with a 96 checkout for a 12-darter.
He continued to run riot sealing an 11-darter to make it 3-0 with Rydz way back. The Bedlington thrower though finally stopped the rot by taking out 70 but again the cushion was reopened as Van den Bergh led 4-1.
Rydz looked to seal a foothold and a way back in with a 72 checkout at 4-2 down but Van den Bergh surged away with a 116 checkout opening it up in a statement of intent.
The Belgian hit a 78 checkout from there to make it 7-2 and didn't drop a leg from there as he eased through.
