Dimitri van den Bergh is successfully through to the Last 16 of the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after sweeping aside Jermaine Wattimena 4-0.

A second straight sets win of the afternoon, it saw a confident 'Dreammaker' strut his stuff on the Alexandra Palace stage with a 96 average, four 180's and 44% on the doubles.

The duo were exchanging breaks to begin the tie but Van den Bergh went a set up as he held finally to make it 3-1 but only after Wattimena missed 118 for a break back again.

A 64 checkout put Van den Bergh one up with a hold to begin the second set. He missed double seven for an 86 checkout and Wattimena punished him to hold with a double 20.

DvDB missed double eight for a brilliant 124 but last dart in hand next time around it was ‘The Dreammaker’ who went 2-1 up.

Wattimena was frustrated and began to take this out on the trebles as he smashed in a quick fire 180. Van den Bergh missed the bull for a 170 and the set and Wattimena sent it all the way on double 20.

It was six darts each without a treble before a 140 and 180 surged Dimitri ahead and he pinned 80 for the set.

Wattimena fluffed his lines on his throw and Van den Bergh was clinical on a 74 checkout to break. A brilliant 128 with two treble 16’s followed by the requisite double saw Van den Bergh two up and one away from claiming a potentially insurmountable 3-0 sets lead.

He kicked off 180 on Wattimena’s throw but the latter left double 16 with Van den Bergh needing 92 which he couldn’t pin. Wattimena pinned double 16 though on a potentially impossible angle where the whole dart obscured the bed.

But this proved a consolation as Van den Bergh pinned double 16 despite missing 110 first time around. A 48 checkout to make it 1-0 was a potential body blow.

He didn’t go for the 81 checkout with the confidence that the 167 wouldn’t go and he claimed it to break throw and go one away.

A 180 from Van den Bergh saw him respond to a previous salvo from Wattimena as he edged towards the finishing line and he pinned double 20 to claim it.
