Vincent van der Voort has ended his drought at the World Matchplay in winning through to the second round in Milton Keynes seeing off Dave Chisnall in a 10-6 win.
Van der Voort before today hadn't come through the first round playing in the tournament since 2011 with 'The Dutch Destroyer' not qualifying in 2013, 2017 and 2018 but is now through with a 99 average, seven 180's and a high checkout of 101.
He in fact had the better start to proceedings. He raced into a 3-0 lead with a double break of throw as Chisnall missed 0/6 on the doubles in the early going.
This didn't last long though and it was 3-2 to Van der Voort at the break as Chisnall claimed the requisite legs to close the gap and deny the Dutchman the advantage.
When they returned, a 130 checkout on the bull for a 12 darter saw Chisnall level at 3-3 and he was soon in front with Van der Voort himself having his own struggles on the doubles. This saw the former lead for the first time at 4-3.
It was back and forth from there with proceedings sitting at 5-5. The vital passage of play was to come though from the Dutch Destroyer as he pinned a 101 checkout to lead 7-6.
He went two away and broke throw to make it 9-6 from there as Chisnall was staring at defeat. This was concluded with a 171 set up leaving 36 which he pinned to win 10-6.
