Last weekend the Dutch Darts Masters took place in Den Bosch, but in addition to the spectacle on stage, a remarkable meeting took place behind the scenes. Vincent van der Voort, former darts player and current analyst at Viaplay, came face to face with Matt Porter, the director of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).

Van der Voort had not exactly been lenient in his statements about Porter lately. He had openly accused him of talking nonsense and even thought Porter should get an "award" for it.

Subject of discussion was the possible participation of Van der Voort in the World Series tournament. This was a wish of his personal sponsor TOTO, which was also title sponsor of the Dutch Darts Masters. However, the PDC felt that "Fast Vinnie" was not eligible for that. Porter gave an explanation for that decision, but Van der Voort could not agree.

Since both individuals were in Den Bosch, there was a good chance they would run into each other. In the podcast Darts Draait Door, Van der Voort talks about this encounter. "It was pretty awkward," the former UK Open finalist began his story. "Normally he says hello, but now he was too friendly." Whether the two had hugged? "We don't allow that."

Presenter Damian Vlottes said Porter was referring to Van der Voort's statements at the media launch the day before the tournament. "That he hadn't prepared anything and was just going to blurt something out," Porter said, according to Vlottes.

Sportnieuws spoke with Porter last weekend, where this topic came up again. The PDC executive reiterated that an invitation for Van der Voort was not an option because 'The Dutch Destroyer' no longer holds a PDC Tour Card. When it was suggested that Fallon Sherrock also did not have a Tour Card in 2021, Porter responded by saying it was "not at the expense of a Tour Card holder then.

Van der Voort was willing to comment briefly on that. "He doesn't half make it difficult for me, does he? It just doesn't make sense, he knows that himself, doesn't he? He could go straight into politics, the way he repeats what he says over and over again," said the outspoken Van der Voort.
