Dirk van Duijvenbode was surprisingly eliminated Sunday at the World Darts Championship. Van Duijvenbode started the match excellently against Madars Razma, but eventually lost 3-1 in sets.
The Dutchman's defeat also came up in darter Vincent van der Voort's podcast. 'The Dutch Destroyer' sympathized with his compatriot, who was eliminated early at the World Darts Championship for the second year in a row.
"Last year it was in line with expectations because he had that injury," Van der Voort recalled. "Now of course the expectations were much higher and I know what Dirk does and leaves for it. So then it's just really a blow."

At the time, it was a shoulder injury that bothered Van Duijvenbode. This time, he contracted a severe flu in the week leading up to his World Cup match. "To suffer something exactly in the week prior (the World Championship) is the most bad timing you can have. You just saw that reflected."
Still, Van Duijvenbode got off to a good start, winning the first set 3-0 with an average of 112. After that, 'Aubergenius' also led 2-0 in the second set. A small moment then took Van Duijvenbode out of focus. Razma then walked up to the oche to throw, but it turned out to be Van Duijvenbode's turn.
After that incident, he completely lost it. "That he gets so upset about that.... That is something that does get upset, that is something that has to be dealt with because when you have that it takes too little to take you out of your game. You can't have that, you have to work on that or you're never going to make it to the top."
Van der Voort then also looked back at the interview Van Duijvenbode gave afterwards on Viaplay. After Van Duijvenbode told his story with tears in his eyes, he seemed to want to slap the microphone.
"Then I still think what am I looking at? Someone who wants to fight with a microphone," Van der Voort laughed. ''Then you're watching anyway; you don't experience this at very many other sports."
