Vincent van der Voort ripped up the form book with a 6-2 success over Damon Heta who came into the
European Championship with two titles in recent weeks including a maiden European Tour.
But Van der Voort who only qualified by the skin of his teeth booked his place in the Last 16 in Dortmund by punishing a below par display from Heta.
Starting off 170, things did not get better for Heta as he missed nine darts at a double including at 3-2 down missing 90 and Van der Voort punished with a 137 checkout for 4-2.
After missing a shot at 109, Heta missed three more darts for a break back and Van der Voort pinned double five before sealing the tie on double 12 after more missed darts at a double from Heta.
While
Michael Smith was given an examination by Karel Sedlacek who is the only non Tour Card holder in the field but 'Evil Charlie' could not summon the power of Magnet and Steel as he lost out 6-4.
He went 3-1 up but Smith soon roared into life with three legs on the spin to turn the match around at 4-3 up.
Sedlacek stopped the rot with a hold in the form of a 66 checkout but back to back legs including a 50 checkout after Sedlacek had missed bull for 84 saw 'Bully Boy' seal it.
