Dirk van Duijvenbode has reached the Quarter-Finals of the 25th Players Championship at the expense of Michael van Gerwen during the second day of the PDC Super Series 7.
The two Dutchmen met in the last 16 after Van Gerwen produced three whitewash victories against Michael Unterbuchner, Steve Beaton and Madars Razma. Van Duijvenbode defeated Geert Nentjes (6-3), Lisa Ashton (6-3) and Adrian Lewis (6-0) on his way to the fourth round.
Van Duijvenbode took a 3-1 lead in the last sixteen with a 12-darter. In the sixth leg Van Gerwen had three chances for a rebreak, but missed the double 6 three times. Van Duijvenbode then kept his own legs three times to beat Mighty Mike for the first time in his career. Van Gerwen had won the previous six meetings between the Dutch pair.
