After a break of almost four months, Dirk van Duijvenbode was allowed to return to England in July to play some PDC ranking tournaments.
The PDC Summer Series took place in Milton Keynes . This event consisted of five consecutive Players Championship tournaments. Van Duijvenbode came through the first round four times and once made the last sixteen, in which he lost to Nathan Aspinall .
Looking back at the PDC Summer Series, Van Duijvenbode has mixed feelings. The goal was reached, but according to him a better result was possible.
“I set myself the goal of winning three thousand pounds of prize money so as not to fall behind the various rankings. That worked out at 3500 pounds. But looking back on that, I didn't feel - except one day - that my opponent was better than me. Maybe a bit of a match practice that I missed then, ” said Van Duijvenbode in an interview with DartsNews.
The prize money won was added to the Race to the
World Grand Prix . Currently, The Titan is well placed to make this tournament in October. Qualification for the World Grand Prix has now become an objective for Van Duijvenbode.
“Because I am now very close only with the current tournaments and deadline I have no control. The deadline is now after the second Euro Tour tournament (September 4-6) and I did not qualify for that. I will participate in the third Euro Tour (September 11-13), but it will be a week later. ”
But it is also unclear about the deadline, especially because it is not yet certain which tournaments will or will not take place. “Maybe a Euro Tour tournament is canceled and they are planning another Summer Series. Then the deadline may be postponed again. That's a bit of a wait and see scenario, ” he added.
Holiday on the agenda for ‘The Titan’
No tournaments are planned in August barring the Premier League. However, Van Duijvenbode will not be bored he revealed. "I'm having fun. With my girlfriend, an occasional barbecue. We live close to the beach, so I could just go there. ”
“I do it at least once a week. Last week I barbecued with Vincent van der Meer and Jeffrey de Zwaan. We will probably also have a barbecue with a group of Dutch PDC Tour Card holders. So that's nice too. Whether the one and a half meter rule is observed? Of course ”, concluded The Titan .
