Michael van Gerwen and
Jonny Clayton have eased into the Last 16 at the
Grand Slam of Darts with a game to spare after dominant wins over Luke Woodhouse and Jermaine Wattimena.
Van Gerwen was facing Luke Woodhouse who saw off Ross Smith in his opener yesterday and started brightly with a 129 on the bull but from there, it was a dominant display from 'Mighty Mike' sealing a 5-1 win.
That initial checkout was to break but after Woodhouse missed a dart at 101 after being given an opportunity following a miss at 70 from MVG, it was the latter who hit double 10 for 1-1.
A dominant hold with an 84 checkout followed for Van Gerwen before a 112 checkout for four legs on the spin. A 180 set up 69 and despite missing double 20 initially, Woodhouse couldn't hit 109 and MVG sealed it on double 10.
While Clayton left no doubt in his qualification with a 5-0 success over Jermaine Wattimena in Group F to clinch it with a game to spare.
This also without dropping a single leg so far in the tournament as he will take on Damon Heta who will hope to end that record in his tie with Wattimena having to beat Leonard Gates in two pivotal ties.
