Michael van Gerwen has done it again! He is the five time World Grand Prix champion and for the first time has retained his title on the Emerald Isle.

Van Gerwen ended up winning 5-2 in sets but Chisnall was a lot better than he was last time out in the final with him firing in 12x 180's and 46 percent on doubles; but once again he has come short in a major final.

It was an ominous first set from Mighty Mike as he showed a potential vision as to what was to come; with a whitewash to start things off and go 1-0 up. Chisnall finally got his first leg on the board to begin the second set; this was a massive confidence boost.

The St Helens ace went on to wrap up the set in a last leg decider; with a 101 checkout despite failing to get off with his first three darts; which is never good against the World Number One.

Both players exchanged breaks throughout the next set but out of nowhere Van Gerwen as he so often does hit a roof raising 111 checkout to lead once more at 2-1 up.

He continued in that vein smashing in a 114 checkout to lead 2-0 in the following set; but it was Chisnall this time that produced the goods by going seven darts into a nine-dart finish; but he hit a 64 finish to get his first leg on the board.

Chizzy broke again to throw for the tie but the costly misses on doubles started to become a massive problem; as Van Gerwen wrapped up a 13 darter with minimum fuss to go 3-1 up.

Mighty Mike wasn't to be denied though from there as he clinched the fifth set 3-1 to go 4-1 up. A brilliant set though from Chisnall saw him hit a 13 darter in the decider to give him the second set; and the Citywest erupted with him.

Despite that though Van Gerwen had a masterful set to claim victory with a 100 checkout the turning point; from there he cruised to the victory and after a few months where he has not played at his best he has proved he is the man to beat.
