The second semi-final has been confirmed at the
US Darts Masters with
Michael van Gerwen set to face
Gerwyn Price as their rivalry is renewed at Madison Square Garden.
Van Gerwen breezed into a 7-1 lead against James Wade who was utterly flawless in his opening game but was not given a chance by the Green Machine and despite some late resistance, it was an 8-3 triumph in the end.
Early on in the tie, Van Gerwen hit double 16 for a 2-0 lead and a break of throw. He broke again on double 18 for a 4-0 lead. Wade missed an 84 checkout to finally get a leg on the board and MVG hit double four to go three away.
Finally Wade got on the board with a 100 checkout but it was only a hold and Van Gerwen hit a 180 and surged to a 6-1 lead and only two away from the win.
He hit another maximum this time on Wade’s throw before pinning double eight to make it 7-1. Wade kept it interesting with a break in the form of an 80 checkout to make it 7-2. A 25 checkout saw him consolidate at 7-3. But an 85 checkout sealed the deal for MVG.
While for Price, it looked to be as plain sailing as Van Gerwen as he went 5-0 up against Jonny Clayton but 'The Ferret' battled back to send it the distance as well from 7-4 down with 'The Iceman' prevailing 8-7 in the end.
Like alluded to, Price breezed into a 5-0 lead capped off with a 124 checkout as he looked to make light work of Clayton and give himself more time to prepare for the semi-finals. Clayton finally got a leg on the board but only after ‘The Iceman’ missed the chance to go 6-0 up.
Price couldn’t get a shot at double from 100 to go 6-1 up and Clayton replied to reduce the arrears to 6-2 with a break at the interval. This nearly proved pivotal as Price went 7-4 up and one away only for ‘The Ferret’ to send the tie all the way before Price eventually sealed it with a 75 checkout.
