Michael van Gerwen will play Chris Dobey in the quarter-finals of the
World Darts Championship on Sunday night. It is the ninth time 'Mighty Mike' has been in the last eight at the PDC World Championship.
This puts Van Gerwen on a par with
Raymond van Barneveld, Gary Anderson, James Wade and Alan Warriner-Little, who have also reached the quarter-finals nine times at the PDC World Darts Championship. The absolute record holder is, of course, Phil Taylor, who has reached the last eight 22 times.
For Dobey, Gabriel Clemens and Jonny Clayton, a quarter-final place is actually a milestone. They will play a quarter-final on Sunday for the first time at the most important tournament of the year.
