Van Gerwen hopes for Verstappen F1 title race glory: “If he keeps his head up, he can become champion”

Michael Van Gerwen will start his World Darts Championship next week, the Formula 1 Drivers Championship will come to an end on Sunday with a thrilling conclusion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The battle is between the Dutchman Max Verstappen and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Like many other Dutchmen, Van Gerwen is glued to the TV on Sunday to follow the race.

"I'm definitely going to look. It will of course be a fantastic race, we all hope'', Mighty Mike says in conversation with NOS Sport. "I think if he keeps his head up, he can become champion on Sunday."

Van Gerwen does not think Hamilton's experience will be a factor. ''I think Max is mentally too strong for that and doesn't care too much about it. He just has to do his own thing.”

And that is exactly what Verstappen is good at, according to Van Gerwen.

"Whoever drives against him, Max doesn't care. That's how you should approach it and that's what makes it fun to watch. You want to see a nice race, where things happen. Not that they're just chasing each other to the finish."
