Michael van Gerwen has began his quest for a trio of
European Tour titles producing an epic display to down Daryl Gurney at the
European Darts Open in Leverkusen.
Van Gerwen saw off Gurney 6-3 with an average of 113.79 with five 180's and 55% on the doubles missing double 12 for a nine-dart finish.
He was broken in the early stages of the match, but made up for this with a 14-darter and a 104 finish. Moments later, he threw an 11-darter in the sixth leg for 3-3.
While in the requisite leg, Van Gerwen missed double 12 for a nine-darter but made up for it with a 10-darter. Van Gerwen then scored a 76 finish and a 12-darter to end the match in style.
On Sunday afternoon, Van Gerwen will play in the last sixteen against the winner of the game between Jonny Clayton and Rowby-John Rodriguez.

Gerwyn Price already made it to the last sixteen by beating Luke Woodhouse 6-4.
While it wasn't a sterling display from 'The Iceman', he produced on the doubles with 6/12 to win through. While Woodhouse couldn't reproduce after his opening display with a 109.98 average to see off Mickey Mansell.
