Michael van Gerwen will aim to claim his first
European Tour title since 2019 and his third
German Darts Championship title, his 33rd overall when he faces
Rob Cross shortly in the final in Hildesheim.
The truncated nature of the past few seasons and also Van Gerwen's downturn in form of sorts have meant that he has not been in the winners' circle on a tour which he has dominated at times.
But after a quality spell in the Premier League as of late, he will get the chance to return with his first ranking title of the season.
He nearly didn't reach the final though with Dimitri van den Bergh claiming three legs on the spin after being down 5-3 and he went one away from the victory only for Van Gerwen to hold throw and send it all the way.
But his comeback was undone from there as he blew three clear darts at double 14 to reach his first Euro Tour final allowing Van Gerwen back for double 18 and he let everyone know how he felt unleashing a huge roar.
Next up will be a familiar rival in Rob Cross who denied Van Gerwen one of his only chances at winning a major last year defeating him in the final of the European Championship.
A title which he holds despite never winning a European Tour, still a staggering feat.
He saw off Daryl Gurney in an impressive display winning 7-4 in the end going into a 4-0 lead before 'Superchin' found his way back into the contest but despite missing two match darts and allowing Gurney to break back at 6-4, 'Voltage' didn't allow the comeback to be completed and he now moves into his fifth European Tour final.
