After the disappointment of a first round defeat in Rotterdam last week, Michael van Gerwen will be looking to return to winning ways in Leeds tonight, a place where he has not lost since 2016.
Taking the night win in Leeds twelve months ago, van Gerwen recieved a walk over the first round against Gary Anderson, before defeating Peter Wright 6-3 in the semi-final and then destroying James Wade 6-1 with an average of 103.87 to take the win.
After losing position at the top of the table to Gerwyn Price, van Gerwen has double the incentive to put on a show tonight in Leeds and really lay down a marker with only three nights of regular league action left following this evening's matches.
'Mighty Mike' takes on his old foe Peter Wright in the first round and although Snakebite hasn't been in the best of form recently, the fact he needs the wins and the points to keep his hopes of making the play-offs alive means he will be a dangerous opponent to come up against.
