Van Gerwen's number one position on Pro Tour Order of Merit under threat

Michael van Gerwen's position at the top of the ProTour Order of Merit is under threat in the coming weeks, it has been revealed with a big few weeks coming up for the World Number One.

While for Van Gerwen, his position at the top of the Order of Merit is not under threat at least for the time being; he could soon be displaced at the top of the ProTour.

This is a position he has held since the end of 2017; so his winless start to 2020 title wise may have to end in the coming weeks for him to keep hold of it.

He currently has £162,500 at the top of the standings. However, Ian White is close by with £146,250, Gerwyn Price on £135,750 and Peter Wright on £130,750 and with all three having prowess especially on the European Tour and not skipping ProTours either it could become a problem for Van Gerwen.

Especially when he has over £77,000 to defend during the next three European Tour tournaments and six Players Championships up to the end of April. Mighty Mike is expected to skip the next floor tournaments and with his wife, Daphne set to welcome a second child in Spring, his participation in even the European Tour events is unknown after the first few.

Like alluded to this means that the likes of White who has £29,750 to defend, Price on £20,000 and the most likely Wright on £19,000 who are all on good form and play most events could likely pass the World Number One before long. An interesting few months awaits.
