Cameron Menzies has been one of the most in-form players on the Pro Tour in 2024. At the Grand Slam of Darts though, the Scot has broken new ground on the TV stage, reaching a first major quarter-final.
Menzies barely made it out of his group. After a victory over Martin Schindler in the opening game, 'Cammy' lost to Danny Noppert in game two and things weren’t looking good for him after he was battered 5-1 by Beau Greaves. But thanks to Noppert beating Schindler 5-2, Menzies made it through his group by the skin of his teeth.

Then, on Wednesday night in Wolverhampton, Menzies faced off against 'The Machine' James Wade in the last 16. After saying he wasn't good enough to be a pro a few months ago and working during the day as a plumber still, he saw off James Wade in a dramatic decider 10-9 to move into a first major quarter-final, where he will face Mickey Mansell on Friday in Wolverhampton for a spot in the semi-finals.
As soon as the winning double hit the target, the emotions overflowed the enigmatic Scot, as he dropped first to his knees and then completely to the floor. Having re-found his feet and shaken the hand of his opponent, Menzies didn't know what to do with himself as he became visibly emotional.
"I'll apologise to James for falling to the floor. I don't like that for myself, I feel kind of embarrassed with that. But it was just a relief because I have not been so nervous those last three darts. I was just playing each leg as it is and then I got in front. Then my heart was racing like," said Menzies about his post-match antics afterwards.
