Dimitri Van den Bergh in a club in Blackpool one night this week 🤣🤣🤣
Dimitri Van den Bergh was active at the 2024 World Matchplay in Blackpool last week. 'The Dreammaker' defeated Martin Schindler and Jonny Clayton, but then went down in the quarterfinals, where he lost to eventual winner Luke Humphries.
The 30-year-old Belgian has been performing well in the TV majors of late. On the floor tournaments he often has a much harder time, although he managed to take a title there as well this year. At the Masters this year, Van den Bergh reached the semifinals and in early March he managed to win the UK Open, beating Luke Humphries in the final. That was the second major title of his career for Van den Bergh, after the World Matchplay in 2020.
Van den Bergh again did well at the World Matchplay with a quarterfinal this time around, even hitting a nine darter in his first tound tie with Schindler. This tournament seemingly suits him particularly well as is apparent from his results. In five appearances he managed to win the title once, lose one final, reach the semifinals, a quarterfinal run this year and once he was eliminated in the second round.
Also against Humphries he made it an exciting match for a long time, but after the last break at 11-9 he had to let five of the next six legs to the Englishman, who thus won 16-10. Van den Bergh dropped one place in the world ranking and is now in tenth place.
Van den Bergh, whose nickname besides "The Dreammaker" is also "Dancing Dimi," did not dwell too long on that defeat, however. He visited a nightclub in Blackpool afterwards where he gave his best on the dance floor, much to the jubilation of the other attendees.
