Dirk van Duijvenbode made his presence felt on Sunday not only on the oche at the
German Darts Grand Prix in Munich, but also delivered a standout moment that sparked plenty of amusement across the darts world.
During his second-round match against Mike De Decker, something occurred at 4-3 that you rarely see at the elite level. Van Duijvenbode had a chance at a 90 checkout and opted for an unusual route via double 18, double 18.
His first dart found the mark, but the second attempt landed in single 18. What followed was a striking reaction: the Dutchman suddenly threw his leg high into the air, creating a peculiar and mildly comic scene on stage.
In sporting terms, Van Duijvenbode held firm in the end. In a nip-and-tuck contest, he edged De Decker 6-5 to book his place in the next round of the Euro Tour event.
Afterwards, Van Duijvenbode showed his playful side. The darter, known for his outspoken personality, chose not to ignore his own antics, but to poke fun at them instead.
On social media, he changed his profile picture to an edited image of the moment he raised his leg, depicting him in a ballerina outfit. He captioned it, short and dry: “Hello profile pic"
The light-hearted move drew plenty of approval from colleagues within the darts community. The post attracted a flood of replies, with most laughing at the moment. Luke Humphries responded with a brief but telling “Class!”, while Danny Noppert limited his reaction to a string of laughing emojis.
