Michael van Gerwen was proven correct in attempting to disprove Shaun Murphy's claims of having hit a nine-dart finish by asking him to throw his darts with the veracity of the claims of the snooker star certainly questioned.
Van Gerwen and Humphries took part in the Paddy Power Challenge with only Murphy able to hit his 147 in a battle of what is the easiest to hit out of that, a nine-dart finish and a hole-in-one.
After exchanging jibes throughout their time in the same room, Van Gerwen made Murphy eat his words as he threw at the board missing it entirely.
He then quipped hilariously: "Was it 301 or 101" about the nine-dart finish as despite hitting a single 20 on his second go, he certainly didn't prove that he could do it. The story went that Murphy had hit one with Phil Taylor darts in a local club. But it seems Van Gerwen had every right to quiz those claims.
