The
New South Wales Darts Masters has began with no shocks so far as both PDC representatives in
James Wade and
Joe Cullen have moved into the final day.
Wade dispelled initial doubling woes to do so coming from 3-2 down to reel off four consecutive legs winning 6-3 and taking out 116 for the match.
Wade missed multiple darts to go 3-1 up with a break and Mathers got out of jail on double five at 2-2. A 171 put the pressure on Mathers but the Aussie responded with an 82 checkout to break and go 3-2 up.
But Wade broke straight back with a 56 checkout finally hitting double 20 after some prior doubling woes. He broke again at 5-3 up with an 86 checkout to go one away.
Mathers hit a 180 and missed bull for a 121 checkout but in typical Wade fashion, he hit back with a final flourish in a 116 checkout on double 18.
While Cullen faced Dave Marland who he thrashed last week with a 108 average, he cruised through again but only 6-3 and not of the level of Townsville.
He lost the opening leg of his tie against Marland but a 72 and 52 checkout saw ‘The Rockstar’ go 3-1 up before pouncing on missed darts at double from the DPA Qualifier to go 4-1 up with a break.
This was consolidated as he went 5-1 up but after missing match darts, Marland kept it interesting at 5-3 down. But Cullen was spared the comeback as he pinned double four to seal it 6-3.
