Wade surges through in blockbuster win over Heta, Chisnall edges past Suljovic in deciding set

James Wade and Dave Chisnall are through to the second round of action at the World Grand Prix after two thrilling ties which went the distance in Leicester.

Wade produced a 121 checkout on the bull in usual fashion to close out an excellent 2-1 win over Damon Heta.

To begin the tie, Wade wasn't at his trademark best on the doubles and Heta picked his pocket for an opening break. A 180 and eventually double 10 saw Heta go one away from the opening set.

It was a 180 and he had the chance to seal the set but in typical Machine fashion, he held throw with a 64 checkout as he looked to spring into life.

Wade missed bull for a 121 checkout but again Heta's finishing doubles deserted him and to script, Wade hit double 10 to force a decider where he had a throw pinning 60 on double 10.

Heta stopped the rot with a 25 checkout for a vital hold of throw. He hit two 180's but Wade hit double 10 once more for 1-1.

Heta missed 68 to spurn an opportunity once more but Wade couldn't pick his pocket this time and the former pinned double eight.

'The Heat' produced from there to make it 1-1 and force a decider. A 121 checkout saw Wade lead but it was merely a hold and Heta made it 1-1. Heta got one dart at double 16 but missed it from 109 which would have seen him go one away and Wade went one away.

But he missed a match dart at double 20 and Heta returned for double four to send it all the way. But in typical Wade fashion, he claimed it with 121 on the bull.

While Chisnall held his nerve to see off Mensur Suljovic in a deciding set for a place in the Last 16 with the former finalist dispelling the recent form from 'The Gentle'.

To begin the tie, Chisnall surged into a 2-0 lead with a 66 checkout and had the darts to go one set up which he claimed with a 60 checkout.

A 48 checkout saw Chisnall send it from bad to worse for Suljovic. The latter missed double 18 for a 153 but he wasn't punished as Chisnall snatched at the bull. As a result double nine was pinned for 1-1 by Suljovic.

A 53 checkout saw Suljovic turn it around and head into a 2-1 lead. But a 109 checkout sent the set to a decider, will it be a third set or will Chisnall claim the win?

A 78 checkout saw Suljovic make it 1-1, all to play for and he followed that up with a 97 checkout to begin the deciding set.

It was the turn of 'The Gentle' to go missing in a leg as Chisnall broke to make it 1-1 with a 25 checkout before going one away.

A 180 and a 63 checkout on double 12 saw Chisnall claim it as he reversed the comeback.
