Scott Waites won through the game of the 2020/21
PDC World Darts Championship so far with a stunning victory over Matt Campbell in a tie which went all 25 legs.
Waites stole the win with a brilliant 81 checkout in the end in a sudden death leg and he couldn't believe the display himself.
"I don't know how long we were on that stage for but I'm a Yorkshireman, we get our money's worth," said Waites post match.
"That last leg when I hit the double, that's why I gave it all. There's no way I've played the 24 legs previous to this to try and lose this game so that last leg you know you've got to give it all. To win that last leg how I did, 11-darter. I can't believe it myself."
"Tell you what, Matt Campbell, what a good dart player he is. I were talking to him, He's got nobody to practice with, he's got no one the standard of the players around here. For him to get on that stage and throw like he does, that is absolutely unbelievable. He is some dart player."
Waites also discussed the BDO's demise and how as players they could see it coming and acted accordingly in terms of going to Q-School.
"I would love to play on that stage with 3,000 people behind me, the atmosphere makes a game of darts. Playing at Lakeside and within the BDO towards the back end of 2019, we knew it wasn't going anywhere. So the players had to make a decision what they were going to do.
The only decision for me was to have a go at Q-School again but really a proper go and try and win a Tour Card and that were my aim in 2019. In 2020, I did have a go in Q-School then I managed to get my Tour Card. If I hadn't got my Tour Card in 2020, I would probably be sat on my settee watching this."
