Lee Evans made a perfect start to his debut
PDC World Darts Championship campaign. The Englishman was a comfortable 3-0 winner over his opponent, Sandro Eric Sosing.
"It was just one of those games where I felt really comfortable, really steady. I felt that even if he did come back and start playing well against me, I could have got back on top again," Evans recaps in his post-match press conference. "After the first set I just felt really comfortable so I'm happy to get over the line and I look forward to tomorrow now."
His first appearance on the iconic Ally Pally stage, Evans showed no signs of feeling the pressure. "If I missed a match dart or something I might have started feeling the nerves but it doesn't feel any different to anything else because I don't really feel the nerves," he explains. "I think the European Tour was a massive plus for today. If that was my first time, maybe it would have been a totally different game. Maybe more nerves would have set in."
In round 2, Evans will face the pre-tournament favourite, Luke Humphries. A daunting prospect no doubt, but for Evans the tie can be seen as a meeting with an old friend. "What a draw," Evans smiles. "Good job I know him well. I know his game, he knows me, we played pairs together years ago. I've got to play my best game I know that and he maybe needs to come down a step because he's beating everyone at the moment but I'm looking forward to that. It's a free shot."
