The UK Open is known as the “FA Cup of Darts.” An open draw, upsets galore, and a multi-board setup where elite players and amateurs compete side by side. Yet amid all the shocks and fairy tales, elite averages are posted on a regular basis.
Topping the list of highest averages at the UK Open is, of course, Phil Taylor. In 2010, “The Power” produced a phenomenal 118.66 average against Kevin Painter in the last 32. With a 9-0 win, he didn’t give his opponent a sniff. That 118.66 also stood for nearly six years as the highest average ever recorded at a televised tournament.
Notably, Taylor appears on this list not once, but multiple times. 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2015 were years in which he bent the tournament to his will with averages well above 110. His 115.62 in the 2009 quarterfinals against Mark Lawrence and 115.51 that same year in the last 32 against Ken Mather underline how consistently he could operate at extreme heights.
In 2025, Niko Springer showed that the new generation can also hit exceptional numbers. With 115.92 in the first round against Cor Dekker, he immediately placed himself among the elite on this honor roll.
Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright also feature in the overview. Van Gerwen averaged 114.91 in 2015 against Kim Huybrechts, while in 2020 he beat Rob Cross in the quarterfinals with a 110.81 average.
Peter Wright joined this illustrious list in 2017 with a 110.88 average against Raymond van Barneveld. Another striking detail about the top 11 averages is that ten of them were achieved from the last 32 onward, at the point where the format increases from best of 11 legs to best of 19 or even best of 21 legs. Springer’s average is the only one on the list recorded over best of 11 legs, even though a higher average is generally easier to produce in a shorter format.
