Whitlock looks to avoid missing first World Matchplay since joining PDC: "I'm confident that I can still reach Blackpool"

Simon Whitlock since moving to the PDC back in 2009 has been an ever present at the World Matchplay but like a host of big names, that streak could end this year.

Heading into Super Series 5 which starts on Monday, he is not in the top 16 in the Order of Merit or the ProTour Order of Merit meaning he is currently missing out.

Hope remains though for 'The Wizard' that he can use this week's cut off to turn it around and see the fans pack out the Winter Gardens again.

“Of course its disappointing to see I haven’t yet qualified for the Matchplay. It’s a brilliant event that I love playing in, especially with fans coming back. I’ve missed the support of the crowds & the Matchplay always has amazing support from the fans," he said to Winmau Darts.

“I’m confident that I can still reach Blackpool this year. I’m playing well with my new darts and if I can translate my practise form into this week’s Super Series I think I’ve got a good chance.”
