The level in darts has risen significantly in recent years, resulting in several players who regularly manage to throw averages of 100+. But which players can best handle this pressure? FEBsData listed this for us.
This chart shows which players performed best when their opponent managed to throw above 100 average. This includes all matches from 2018 onwards, based on a minimum of 20 matches played.
As expected, it is Luke Littler who leads the rankings. 'The Nuke' received an average of over 100 on 76 occasions and managed to win no fewer than 49 of them. 27 times the teenage sensation had to acknowledge his opponent, giving him a winning percentage of over 64.5%. Michael van Gerwen has the second highest win percentage with 50.7%. The Dutchman managed to win 109 of the 215 matches in which his opponent threw 100+.
Other big names in this list include Gerwyn Price (win percentage of 43.9%), Gary Anderson (win percentage of 43%), Luke Humphries (win percentage of 41.4%) and Peter Wright (win percentage of 38.5%). Dutchmen Danny Noppert (win percentage of 35.2%), Gian van Veen (win percentage of 32.1%) and Dirk van Duijvenbode (win percentage of 31.7) also made the list.
If we raise the average to 105+ average, over at least 5 games played, we still see Luke Littler at the top of the list. Of the 19 times the youngster faced an opponent who threw 105+ average, he managed to win 10 and lost 9. That amounts to a 52.6% winning percentage.
In this list, Gerwyn Price is in second place with 36.2% (17 out of 47 matches won) and Danny Noppert in a surprising third place with 36% (9 out of 25 matches won). Van Gerwen managed to win a third of his matches with 33.3% (18 out of 54) and Dirk van Duijvenbode closes this list with a winning percentage of 14.7% (5 out of 34 matches won). In the tweets below, you can see exactly which other players manage to perform best when their opponent puts on the pressure.
