Lewy Williams will make his
European Championship debut this evening when he faces Jose de Sousa in the opening round in Salzburg with giant killing on the mind for the young Welshman.
But Williams who has made superb strides in his first year in the PDC admitted his expectations were low until a win over a certain former World Number One.
"When I first got on the tour, I didn't know what to expect so I didn't really have too many ambitions at the start, I just thought go out and enjoy it. Enjoy the darts, you've done the hard work, you've made it onto the tour so just enjoy it and not put too much pressure on myself," he said on The Darts Show podcast.
"But then as I was getting into it, I was beating Michael van Gerwen on the first day of the ProTour. I thought alright, here we go then. Then I just tried to qualify for as many TV tournaments or Euro Tours etc.
"Like I said already in my first year, I've qualified for the European Championship, done well on my first Euro Tour in Budapest, touching the World Championships so fingers crossed it's all going very well so hopefully a few more TV events to come as well."
