Peter Wright will face Michael Smith in the semi-finals of the 2021
Grand Slam of Darts after ending the run of Fallon Sherrock in a 16-13 victory.
Wright fended off a late comeback of sorts from Sherrock who looked to produce more heroics on the Grand Slam stage.
But it wasn't to be as 'Snakebite' surged through with a 100.3 average to 98.9 for Sherrock who proved she could do it over the longer format.
Sherrock surged into the lead after Wright attempted a bull-bull for 120 and despite multiple 140's for Sherrock, Wright replied for 1-1.
He hit 180 but Sherrock hit 171 to leave 132 which she whittled down to 40 with Wright on 180.
But she missed three darts for a hold only to return anyway with Wright unable to produce 120 and it was a 2-1 lead.
Sherrock was down to 101 on Wright's throw and she produced the first break to make it 3-1.
She couldn't pin 96 to hold and Wright was given the chance on 70 which he pinned for a 3-2 deficit and a break back.
Wright tied it up at parity at 3-3 and from there, he made it a 4/5 leg session to make it 6-4 at the second interval.
Sherrock had a bounceout on the bull on return which was left unpunished and she returned for double 16 to make it 6-5. The holds continued with Wright sat at 7-6 up.
Sherrock missed three at double 20 to break and Wright regained his two leg cushion at 8-6. A 46 checkout kept her one behind at the next interval.
Wright missed chances to hold but was let off the hook by Sherrock as he went 9-7 up.
It was sixteen darts missed at doubles for Sherrock as Wright opened up a 10-7 advantage. He began to pull away closer to the finishing line at the next interval with a four leg lead at 12-8 up.
He edged closer with a 120 checkout for a 13-9 lead. Sherrock though kept her hopes alive breaking to go 14-12 behind in a stunning sequence from the Queen of the Palace.
It was three legs on the spin for Sherrock as she got back to within one at 14-13. Wright missed the bull for an 81 checkout but returned with Sherrock back on 204 with 'Snakebite' going one away at 15-13.
He produced a clutch 115 checkout to claim the victory and end Sherrock's run.
