𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 🐍 Peter Wright wins Players Championship 16, beating Luke Humphries 8-4 with a staggering 109 average. Some brilliant darts all day from the world number two as he collects his second title of 2021!
Peter Wright has ended the latest iteration of the PDC Super Series with another title to add to his collection after an 8-4 win over Luke Humphries in the final who reached his fourth title match this year to no avail in Milton Keynes.
Wright joins Joe Cullen and a double from Jose de Sousa this week which is his 36th PDC title in all with a second this year on the PDC ProTour hitting a 109 average in victory over 'Cool Hand Luke'.
This comes after a poor start to the week with early exits to Maik Kuivenhoven and Josh Payne before a Quarter-Final yesterday and getting over the line on Thursday.
Wright was on the mark early in the final hitting a 180 and 80 for an immediate break of throw. He doubled his advantage by consolidating that with double 10.
A break was there was once more as he hit back-to-back 180's and finished with double 20 as he looked to leave Humphries in the dust at 3-0 up.
But he missed three darts at double to consolidate the break and Humphries took out 84 to reduce the deficit to 3-1 before holding from there.
A hold saw Wright reimplement a two leg cushion with an 88 checkout on double 14 at 4-2 up. It was a three leg cushion at 5-2 with an average of only 114.
He held throw from there as he headed further towards the title with a 63 checkout on double six.
A seventh 180 aimed to pressure Humphries who was on double two but he kept cool and held throw to go 6-3 down.
He was under pressure to hit the 170 with Humphries on 116 but Humphries could not get a shot. Wright though couldn't grab a 118 checkout and Humphries stayed alive with a break as he went 6-4 down.
He faltered though on his throw and Wright was first to a finish and left 50 to break back immediately and go one away at 7-4 up.
A 180 started Wright's throw which he followed up with a 131 as he aimed to snatch any late opportunity away from Humphries. That he did as he missed double five for a 130 checkout but Humphries couldn't trouble 121 and Wright returned for the victory.
