Xiaochen Zong underlined his excellent 2026 form once again by winning two PDC China ProTour events last weekend. The 28-year-old Chinese player, who will represent his country for the sixth time at the
World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt this week, added his third and fourth titles of the season to his résumé.
Strong momentum maintained
After his impressive showing in the first four ProTour events of the year, where he had already claimed two titles,
Zong kept that momentum going during the next round in Guangzhou. Saturday, in particular, he impressed at the fifth tournament. On his way to the title, he barely dropped legs against his opponents. In his first four matches he lost only three legs, before dispatching Xicheng Han 5-2 in the semi-finals.
The final brought a meeting with Lihao Wen, a player with whom Zong has previously represented China at the
World Cup of Darts. Zong again left little to chance in that match. With another convincing 5-2 victory, he claimed the fifth tournament and reinforced his status as the dominant force on the Chinese circuit.
More success followed a day later. At the eighth tournament, Zong was once again dominant. He opened his campaign with an impressive 101.90 average in a 4-0 win over Ruiling Liu. That proved a sign of another successful day. He eventually reached the final again, where Jizhou Li was his opponent. This match also proved one-sided. Zong prevailed 5-1 and secured his fourth ProTour title of the season.
Lead consolidated
Thanks to these results, the five-time PDC World Championship participant consolidates his lead at the top of the China ProTour rankings. With four titles from the first eight events of the season, Zong currently appears a step ahead of the competition.
He was not unbeatable over the weekend, though. On Saturday, at the sixth tournament, Zong surprisingly came up short against Jizhou Li. Li knocked the rankings leader out in the quarter-finals and then powered on to the title. In the semi-finals, Li beat Wenqing Liu 5-1, before also defeating Tianxiao Cao by the same scoreline in the final. That gave Li his first tournament win of the season.
Xiaochen will also be in action at the World Cup of Darts this week
The other title of the weekend went to Wenqing Liu, who won the seventh tournament. In a thrilling final, he only edged past Tianxiao Cao in the deciding ninth leg. Earlier in the day, Liu produced one of the tournament’s most memorable moments. In the semi-final against Zong, he survived multiple match darts and overturned a 4-3 deficit to win.
Despite those two defeats, Zong can look back on another highly successful weekend. With four titles from eight events, he heads to Frankfurt as the standout figure in Chinese darts, where he will once again represent China at the World Cup of Darts. His recent performances make it clear he is currently the standard-bearer of Chinese darts and can start the prestigious team tournament with plenty of confidence.
