The United Kingdom Darts Association (UKDA) It is an organization responsible for overseeing and promoting darts in the United Kingdom. The UKDA aims to support grassroots darts, organize competitions and leagues, and foster the development of the sport at all levels across the UK. It acts as a governing body for various darts activities and works to enhance the sport's structure and reach.
Recently, the organisation's CEO, Colin Savage was a guest on the Weekly Dartscast, reflecting on the four year spell of running county darts in the country and both his and the UKDA's future. "As you know, it was a weird time in the world," he recalls of the 2020 beginnings of the UKDA. "There were rumours of financial problems in the BDO, so we took a chance and we went for it."
It wasn't all plain sailing in the early days of the organisation however. "It was a kind of, tough 6 months and honestly there was no mass celebrations or anything, it was just a relief. Like, that part's done, now let's get down to business here," he explains. "A couple of people had some good ideas and it kind of snowballed from there. Here we are four years later and the counties actually know now, this Wednesday night is my last. I'm stepping down as CEO. I'm stepping down into a lesser role."
As mentioned there, Savage won't be completely departing the UKDA. Nevertheless, is confident the future of the county game in the United Kingdom is in very safe hands. "I've always been a believer of never staying too long in one position, so I'll give someone else a chance to step up and take it on for the next four years," Savage says. "I will still help with the events, still help with sponsorship and that in the background. But I will very much be in the background. Just personal commitments and running my own buisness... it has to take priority."
