Michael van Gerwen started his bid to win his fourth successive Masters crown with a 10-6 win over Kim Huybrechts. ‘Mighty Mike’ looked to be back to his brilliant best but did something that has been seen recently and that was switch off. He had darts to win 10-1 but Huybrechts fought back.
He won 5 legs on the spin including a brilliant 160 checkout and he really gave MVG a game in the second half of proceedings and took his chances when the former 2x World Champion almost went to sleep but it was too much of a mountain to climb for the Hurricane but he comes away with plenty of encouragement after a good performance.
Van Gerwen despite that lapse averaged 102.6 and hit 63% on the doubles and will play James Wade tomorrow in the Quarter-Finals at Stadium:MK.

Brilliant comeback from the Belgian but it wasn't to be.
