He lost out in the last 64 against Jamie Kelling 5-3 but put that behind him by winning the second event. He defeated Berry van Peer's brother Carlo 5-1, former UK Open finalist Barrie Bates 5-3. Then he followed that up with a 5-1 win over Lewis Pride, a close one with Ricky Williams 5-4 then Callan Rydz 5-4.
Then in the last 8 another close one against Richie Corner winning 5-4, then Ben Burton a former UK Open Qualifier 5-3 and then finally Michael Barnard in the final.
Of course with the big incentive available of the top players in the Order of Merit being allowed into the Pro Tours which Portela just missed out on, this will do the Brazilian the world of good in achieving that goal once again.
The likes of Jamie Hughes, Andy Boulton and David Pallett also had good runs in the last event of today with Hughes and Pallett in particular getting to the last 8.
