Michael van Gerwen hit his first nine-dart finish of the new PDC season on Sunday afternoon. The world number one produced the perfect leg in the quarter-final of Players Championship 2 against Jonny Clayton.
Van Gerwen used an unusual way to hit his 141 checkout. He started with treble 19, before he found the treble 16 and double 18. Geert Nentjes, Chris Dobey and Dave Chisnall managed to hit a nine-dart finish earlier on the day as well.
Despite the nine-dart finish, Van Gerwen lost 6-3 to the Welshman. The three-time world champion suffered his first defeat of the year.
