Van Gerwen suffers first defeat of the season as Clayton defeats world number one

Michael van Gerwen's unbeaten streak in 2019 has been ended by Jonny Clayton. 'The Ferret' defeated the Dutchman 6-3 in the quarter-finals of Players Championship 2.

Clayton and Van Gerwen managed to win all their legs within fifteen darts. 'Mighty Mike' even hit a nine-dart finish during this high quality contest.
However, Clayton broke back with a 13-dart leg and continued his lead in the eighth leg with a 12-darter. The Welshman held his own throw to complete his third victory over the world number one.
The former major finalist will face Dave Chisnall in the semi-finals. 'Chizzy' edged out James Wade after a leg-decider. Joe Cullen and Glen Durrant meeting each other in the second semi-final.
