Arjan Konterman reached the second round of the WDF World Championship on his debut at
Lakeside. He proved to be clearly a size too big for Danny Porter from Australia.
Indeed, Porter returned home with only one leg won. Especially the first set was very solid from the Dutchman. Thanks to a 14-darter and a 15-darter, that set went 3-1 to Konterman. He then took the second set 3-0 for a straight sets win over Porter.
Jonny Tata was able to secure victory against Shaun McDonald after an exciting match. Tata trailed 1-2 against his Scottish opponent in the deciding leg, but forced a final leg with a 14-darter. In the final leg, McDonald was on 56 after five visits, but did not get a chance to win the match. With a fine 101 finish, Tata pulled the win his way.
In the women's tournament, it was goodbye to former quarterfinalist Laura Turner. Lorraine Hyde who last year lost out to close friend, Tori Kewish gets the opportunity this year to move through.
Albeit she will now face off against tournament favourite, Beau Greaves who will kick start her campaign in the next round. The Scot herself had to come from a set down to defeat Turner who despite being solid at times on the PDC Women's Series hasn't yet been able to put it together on the Lakeside stage.
